Anthropic donates Agent Skills to AAIF as 70+ platforms adopt

Teams can adopt Agent Skills with a clearer path toward shared governance and cross-platform support. They should still pin tested behavior and review third-party skills until versioning and security rules are settled.

Anthropic donates Agent Skills to AAIF as 70+ platforms adopt

Anthropic donated Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation, moving the agent format under Linux Foundation governance while keeping it open to users and contributors.

The transfer covers the Agent Skills name and logo, its GitHub organization, and the agentskills.io domain. According to the Anthropic announcement, more than 70 agent platforms have integrated the format since December 2025, with 1 million skills published and nearly 280 million installs. Those adoption figures are vendor-reported.

Engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and other companies will maintain the standard as individuals. The proposed roadmap includes versioned releases, a formal proposal process, and guidance for writing and installing skills securely.

For builders, Agentic AI Foundation stewardship should make SKILL.md workflows less dependent on one vendor. Compatibility and trust checks still matter, however, because release timing and final security requirements have not been specified.
