Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5 with tiered pricing

Short-prompt agents may get a real cost break, but teams should watch the 100K-token cutoff and recheck token usage before translating list prices into production savings.

Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5 with tiered pricing

Anthropic announced Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026, with lower token pricing for prompts up to 100,000 tokens and a higher tier above that cutoff.

According to the Anthropic launch page, prompts up to 100,000 tokens cost $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. For prompts above 100,000 tokens, pricing shifts to $0.50 for input and $2.50 for output per million tokens.

Anthropic says about 90% of requests to the previous Haiku model fell into the lower band, which suggests many short-prompt classification, extraction, and routing workloads could see the cheaper rate. Haiku 5.5 is available now on Anthropic’s platform, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.

There is a pricing caveat: Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 uses an updated tokenizer that can use slightly more tokens per task. And while the launch page compares Haiku 5.5 against Haiku 4.5 at $1 and $5 per million input/output tokens, Anthropic’s current pricing docs list Haiku 4.5 at $0.50 and $2.50, so the exact discount depends on which baseline you use.
