BairesDev’s Q3 2026 developer survey found a sharp rise in AI-written code, alongside heavier review and debugging workloads.
In the BairesDev survey, 42% of 705 developers said AI produced at least half their code, up from 12% a year earlier. Respondents reported saving an average of 13 coding hours per week, but 67% said they now spend more time reviewing AI output and 52% spend more time debugging AI-introduced problems.
The results are self-reported, and most respondents were applicants in BairesDev’s screening process, so they may not represent the wider profession. Still, the direction is clear: code generation is accelerating faster than confidence in the output.
For agent builders, code review needs to become part of the workflow itself. Deterministic tests, static analysis and a human approval gate can catch weak output before it reaches deployment.
