DeepSeek opens Harness preview as desktop release remains unconfirmed

Automation builders can test and extend the open-source runtime now, but desktop deployment workflows should wait for verified packages or validate community builds carefully.

DeepSeek opens Harness preview as desktop release remains unconfirmed

DeepSeek opened Harness Developer Preview to developers worldwide and released its source code, while reports of an official desktop release remain unconfirmed.

The DeepSeek Harness page describes a plugin-based agent runtime in which models, tools, skills, sessions, sandboxes, storage, scheduling, and interfaces can be swapped or extended. DeepSeek cautions that core plugins and the basic API are still being tested and will continue to change.

A separate community project packages the web experience as an Electron app and lists builds for macOS and Windows, among other platforms. DeepSeek’s own page does not confirm those installers as an official desktop launch. Teams testing local deployment should verify package provenance and signing rather than treating the community wrapper as a supported distribution.
