HumanLayer open-sources coding-agent stack under Apache 2.0

This gives teams a self-hostable human-in-the-loop coding-agent workspace they can inspect and adapt, while keeping the hosted option available for existing users.

HumanLayer open-sources coding-agent stack under Apache 2.0

HumanLayer said on October 23, 2026 that it has released its core coding-agent stack as open source under Apache 2.0, giving teams a self-hostable option alongside its existing cloud service.

According to the HumanLayer announcement, the release includes the desktop app, web UI, cloud API, Electric proxy, and the host daemon/CLI used to manage Claude Code and Codex sessions. HumanLayer says this is the same codebase that powers HumanLayer Cloud, and existing free and paid users can keep using the hosted service unchanged for now.

The self-hosted path is available now through a Docker Compose/devstack setup, though the company says some third-party keys are still required and documentation is still in progress. It also says self-run deployments do not send telemetry unless operators add their own keys or DSNs.
