SemiAnalysis forecasts 50+ GW datacenter buildout in 2027

If the forecast holds, chip supply could become a tighter constraint than datacenter space. It also shows why infrastructure tracking systems should separate primary construction data from modeled capacity estimates.

SemiAnalysis forecasts 50+ GW datacenter buildout in 2027

SemiAnalysis published a report on October 19 forecasting more than 50 GW of new datacenter capacity in 2027, while framing the figure as model output rather than observed capacity.

The SemiAnalysis report says more than 24 GW is already in advanced construction across about 40 campuses, with most of that capacity expected next year. It also points to datacenter leasing as a leading indicator and argues the bottleneck could shift from available sites to memory and logic chips in 2027 and 2028.

That 2027 forecast is not yet broadly validated. TSN Media notes that much of the underlying analysis is behind a paywall and has not been confirmed by third parties.
